Edwina was a Humanoid Martian slave girl, born on Mars. In the 1890s, she encountered Amelia Fitzgibbon of Earth, and learned English from her. The adolescent Edwina then became the interpreter between Amelia and the other slave people of Mars, allowing Amelia to inspire rebellion in the slaves against the nonhumanoid Martians. Edwina also interpreted for Edward Turnbull when he arrived in their camp, and helped the two escape to Earth aboard one of the invasion craft. ("The Space Machine")
